Astoria Area Chamber of Commerce
February 13, 2003
Pres. Barry Beck called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. at the Astoria Public Library. There were eight members present.
The treasurer’s report showed a current balance of $1,542.11. Bob Bridges made the motion to accept the treasurer’s report with Marty Bair seconding.
In the absence of the secretary, the January and February minutes will be read at the March meeting.
The guest speaker for the evening was Cindy Chaffin from the Community Medical Clinic in Astoria. She stated that the Clinic has now been in Astoria for 5 years as of December 2002 and under the supervision of Culbertson Hospital and Dr. Robert since November of 2001. Dr. Robert is at the Clinic two times per month. She reported that the two practioners each see an average of 20-25 patients a day. The arrangement with the Fulton County Health Department sub-office is working out very well. They refer patients to the Health Department and vice-versa.
Committee Reports:
Special Events – Cindy Chaffin reported that the annual Easter Egg Hunt would be Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. The tentative budget was $250.
Retail Committee – The Spring Fling has been set for May 3. Interest was also shown in checking into having a retail Senior Citizen Discount Day once a month. Arletha Dowacter would like to have a "quilt for charity" and asked the Chamber for assistance.
A nominating committee consisting of Kathleen Behymer, Joanie Morrell, Tanya Emmons and Marty Bair will report at the next meeting on recommendations to fill the vacancies on the Chamber Board of Directors.
Bob Bridges made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Bob Stambaugh seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
