Pres. Beck called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. at the Astoria Public Library. There were 8 members present and 2 guests. The treasurer’s report showed a current balance of $1,672.11. Beth Price made the motion to accept the treasurer’s report with Arletha Dowacter seconding. In the absence of the secretary, the December minutes will be read at the February meeting. The guest speaker for the evening was Fulton County Treasurer Victoria Harper. Ms. Harper explained how real estate taxes for Fulton County are calculated and how they are divided among the taxing bodies. She used an actual 2001 real estate bill as an example and gave tips on how to determine if you were assessed at a fair value. She also explained several exemptions available to senior citizens, if applied for.

Committee Reports: Special Events – Ryan Baker reported that the deer contest was a profitable event this year but a few minor changes will be made if the event is held next year. Breakfast with Santa – The annual Breakfast with Santa was very successful with 80+ children attending. The cost of the event was discussed with these approximate amounts spent this year: Chamber, $207; Lions, $160; and MTS, $107. Public Relations – It was suggested that a new brochure for Astoria be developed, promoting local businesses. The brochures would be distributed in local stores and surrounding towns. Retail Committee – A tentative date of May 3 was set for the Spring Fling. Barry is to check into advertising prices and the cost of a banner to promote the event. A nominating committee will be appointed at the next meeting to fill three terms on the Board of Directors that will expire in May. Bob Bridges made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Steve Butler seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
