Astoria Area Chamber of Commerce

August 14, 2003

 

In the absence of Pres. Bridges(due to hospitalization), Barry Beck called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.  There were 7 members present.

 

The treasurer’s report showed a current balance of $2896.79. Marty Bair made the motion to accept the treasurer’s report with Bonnie White seconding.

 

There were no minutes from the June meeting.

 

Committee Reports:

 

Retail and Promotion –Kathleen Behymer will organize the chamber walk through during the homecoming parade.  If you can walk, please contact Kathleen. Arletha Dowacter is organizing a craft show to be held during homecoming.  Anyone wishing to display their crafts should contact her as soon as possible.  The show will be held in the Senior Citizen’s building.

 

Public Relations – Bonnie White has done an extensive amount of work on the brochure and is complete.  Stevens Publishing has volunteered to print the first printing for free.  If you have not paid your dues, your business will not be included in the brochure.  We hope to be able to distribute the brochures during homecoming. 

 

Cruise Night was deemed very successful with a large turnout both in cars and attendance. 

 

Steve Axelbaum presented some possible ideas to help make our town more senior accessible.  Suggestions included biking trails, walking trails, making all businesses handicapped/senior accessible and providing transportation on a monthly basis for senior citizens.  The board of directors will be discussing these ideas at greater length at their next meeting.

 

Marty Bair made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Bonnie White seconded.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
