Astoria Area Chamber of Commerce

Pres. Bridges called the
meeting to order at 6:58 p.m. There
were 7 members present and 1 guest.
The treasurer’s report showed
a current balance of $2094.49. Barry Beck made the motion to accept the treasurer’s
report with Bonnie White seconding.
The minutes from the
September meeting were read. Kathleen
Behymer made the motion to accept the minutes as read and Arletha Dowacter
seconded.
Committee Reports:
Public Relations – The
brochures have been completed and will be distributed during homecoming and
they will be available in Chamber member businesses.
Retail and Promotion – Carriage night has been set for Friday, November 21 from 6:00 – 8:00. Astoria Buck drawings will take place at 7:00. Top prize will be $300.
A committee consisting of Barry Beck, Kathleen Behymer, Arletha Dowacter and Nancy Carithers for a Christmas lighting contest. Details will be made available later. There will be a nominal fee to enter and trophies will be awarded.
Bob Bridges, Ryan Baker and Steve Butler will co-chair the Hunting, Fishing, and Quilting Expo to be held on March 6. Anyone willing to help with this project is welcome.
Linda Krulac from the Fulton County Housing Authority spoke about Section 8 housing. This is a program that assists renters with their rent payments. Both the renter and the landlord must sign an agreement with the housing authority. The housing must be federally approved. Income guidelines are used to determine the renters eligibility and assistance is determined using federal guidelines. More housing is needed in Fulton County. Contact the housing authority for more information.
